Barium nitrate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ba(NO₃)₂, recognized for its crystalline structure, white appearance, and strong oxidizing characteristics. It is widely incorporated into the formulation of green-colored fireworks, signal flares, tracer rounds, and other visual display products. In the defense and explosives industries, barium nitrate is used in thermite mixtures, flash powders, and detonators, where its oxidizing ability enhances ignition and combustion efficiency.

The demand for barium nitrate is largely driven by the pyrotechnics sector, defense applications, and specialty chemical manufacturing. Emerging economies with increasing fireworks consumption and nations investing in defense modernization are key growth markets. However, stringent environmental and safety regulations in some regions may limit its use, leading to interest in developing safer and more eco-friendly alternatives.
